Workshops

Our teacher workshops are delivered by Amy Farrell, writer at Scene by Scene.

Amy approaches the Comparative Study from a teacher's perspective, mindful of the difficulties involved in preparing students to reach their potential in this challenging area of the Leaving Cert English course.

Our Teacher Workshop is designed to make teaching the Comparative Study a straight forward and rewarding experience for English teachers. My approach helps teachers consider what makes a good Comparative answer, and how to go about ensuring that your students successfully achieve answers like this.

Topics include:

  • Choosing texts for the Comparative Study.
  • Exam Answers – considering the Chief Examiner’s Report 2013 and 2017 Marking Schemes.
  • The Comparative Modes – what exactly do they cover?
  • Using film and song to illustrate the modes.
  • Comparing – making comparisons and meaningful connections.
  • Building exam answers.

Support materials, including sample Leaving Cert English Comparative Mode answers will be provided on the morning of the workshop.
